Classroom Publications Limited was established in Hong Kong in
1983 and quickly became known for the quality of its supplementary
teaching materials for Mandarin Chinese, mathematics, and English.
Classroom does not simply print teaching materials. Classroom's
staff of more than 140 people is also involved in research to determine
the needs of teachers and students and then to develop the most
effective materials to meet those needs. In addition, the Classroom
staff spends considerable time and effort providing advice and
support to teachers.
Classroom also has offices in Guangzhou and
Shenzhen. In 2000, Classroom established its Taiwan division in
order to better meet the special needs of teachers and students
there. For example, Taiwan teaches American English, rather than
the British English taught in Hong Kong. Taiwan also has tests
and vocabulary requirements that are somewhat different from Hong
Kong. The Taiwan staff does on-the-spot research and employs Taiwanese
teachers as consultants and writers. Taiwan and Hong Kong staffs
work together to produce the highest quality English teaching materials
that have been designed especially for the students in Taiwan.
As in Hong Kong, the staff in Taiwan provides support and advice
to teachers. |

Our mission is to make a meaningful contribution to practical
English education in Taiwan. This is what we do in order to accomplish
our mission:
- We continuously meet with teachers to learn what sorts of material
they need.
- We employ Taiwanese teachers as consultants to help us present
this material in ways that are best suited for instruction in Taiwan's
schools.
- We employ Taiwanese teachers as writers for these materials. These
writers and consultants also ensure that the Chinese-language portions
of our publications fit the style of Mandarin spoken in Taiwan.
- We provide technical support and advice to teachers. This includes
suggested lesson plans, demonstration teaching, and seminars.
Then we put all of these things together to produce English teaching
materials of the highest quality. After we have published a book, we
then talk to the teachers who use these books in order to learn what
improvements we might make in the next edition. Our efforts are a never-ending
quest for excellence. |
